The artist Milo Moiré has been arrested in London and detained for 24 hours after inviting passers-by to touch her naked body. First reported in Dazed Magazine, Moiré views her arrest as being an example of Europe’s “lack of unity” because the laws within the “continent should be regulated uniformly.” Until her arrest Moiré had no problem taking her Mirror Box performances around Europe.

The artist's Mirror Box performances see her inviting the public to touch her genitals and chest for 30 seconds. The artist can be heard in some of the footage available to see on youtube declaring “My name is Milo Moiré, I'm a performance artist, and I stand here for women's rights and sexual equality. The artist goes on to state that “We have the same sexual appeal as men have, but we decide when we will be touched, or not. Today, you have the chance to touch the box for thirty seconds and feel free. It doesn't matter if you're a woman or a man.”

Born in 1983, Milo Moirė is a Swiss artist known for her naked performances. Mainly working in Düsseldorf, Germany, she has an Art Academy background and a degree in psychology. On her website videos of her nude performances can be viewed for a fee. Moiré cites Marina Abramović and Joesph Beuys as particular influences.

The performance is almost a direct copy of the performance made famous by the Austrain artist Valie Export in 1968. Export's performance Touch Cinema saw the artist stand on the street in Vienna with a box covering her bosom and also encouraged the public to touch her exposed flesh.
