About the artwork
In Jawbreaker, Özseçen is depicted sucking on a large hard candy known as a "jawbreaker". The result is an erotic exploration of gender and memory conbining the artist's interest in fantasy and fetish. Özseçen enjoys pushing the limits of decorum with her works, at times becoming nearly pornographic. The artist herself described the work in graphic terms: "The mouth and the jawbreaker coexist and must move in and out of each other for breathing. As the performance proceeds, the sound becomes more and more intimate."
