About the artwork
Hilum was originally created as part of a specially commissioned group show inspired by Willem de Kooning's Door Cycle paintings of the 60s. For the Door Cycle, 2007, 19 celebrated artists were invited to create an original work, using prefabricated hollow-core doors. Other works in the group included Anish Kapoor's Reverse Perverse and Olafur Eliasson's Sunset Door. In keeping with his characteristic monochromatic landscapes, Morrison's door depicts various enlarged flora created using polyurethane, cnc-milled, on a lacquered white wooden door panel.
