About the artwork
These 5 prints depict various angles of a preparatory maquette for Demand's 2003 Space Simulator, a large-scale work based on the Apollo Mission Simulator in the 60s. Attracted to the image's Cubist qualities, the subject matter is pertinent for the artist due to his fascination with notions of authenticity and representation, particularly considering the purpose of the machine for simulation. Likewise the scissors evoke the evolution of the original image; from reality, to photograph, to model, and back again. This reminder encourages the audience to consider the relationship between reality and "simulated" reality.
