About the artwork
Half medical, half technological in nature, this lithograph depicts a figure on the operating table as well as several disembodied torsos together with an electronic wiring diagram and a recording device of some kind grasped by a blue hand. Combining two distinct styles—one detailed and colorful, the other stylized and graphic—, Oursler here pairs disparate elements in collage-like fashion, creating connections that range from darkly humorous to joyfully absurd.
