About the artwork
Up-and-coming Egyptian artist Wael Shawky navigates the increasingly complex notions of truth and myth in contemporary society. In his portfolio of prints from 2014, Shawky explores issues of cultural displacement and globalization. The 12 silkscreens thrusts us into a fantasy world that is both benign and malignant, where the fossilized bones of the dinosaur-like figures are inseparable from the architecture and terrain they inhabit, and where the very idea of home becomes treacherous.
