About the artwork
Mullican's Untitled wall installation reflects the artist's well-known concern with signs and symbols. The five signs, meant to be painted directly onto the buyer's wall, are part of the artist's signage system through which he advances his private cosmology. He proposes that all that exists is meaningful and can only be fully understood through their insertion and subsequent ordering within his complex framework. Thus his color-coded pictograms represent various objects, actions, and concepts, which he uses in his attempt to establish differences between the subjective and objective world.
