About the artwork
Typical of the artist’s playful approach to materiality, this unique work by Michael Sailstorfer is made out of Chanel lipstick on a silicone backing. The tear shape is reduced to its simplest, basic dimension, symbolic of so much yet also flattened. The artist did a series of these paintings using different shades of lipstick for each, lining them up along a gallery wall as if displaying them on a cosmetic shelf.
