About the artwork
Prince's New Figures series combines vintage black and white erotic photographs with the artist's own collage elements that cover the most explicit sections of the original images. In the resulting works a hazy background of lusty models is overlaid with the stark outlines of the same women's forms on startlingly white strips of paper. Simplified and rendered geometrically, the female protagonists transform from pornographic subjects into classical nudes, or rather are caught somewhere between the two, creating, as the title promises, entirely new figures.
