About the artwork
Untitled (02.1) is a work from the portfolio Double Exposure, comprised of photographic diptychs by 14 internationally recognized artists. While the project explores the idea of sequences, this particular work by Barth is characteristic of her photographs where her fascination with light and visual perception are at the forefront. Typically, she removes the central subject matter, creating blurry backgrounds that emphasize empty foregrounds rendering specific imagery generic. Often staged in her own home, Barth depicts everyday objects in featureless surroundings that encourage the viewer to reflect on the perceptual process.
