About the artwork

Right from his early days as a commercial illustrator, Warhol had a pronounced shoe fetish. Stilettos, high-heels, pumps—they all epitomized the glamor and exuberance of New York and were worlds away from his frugal upbringing in Pittsburgh. To make the shoes sparkle in the light, Warhol used one of his favorite effects, diamond dust.
