About the artwork

In Seattle, Library-II, Axel Hütte captures a cityscape at night. As is typical of his images, the viewpoint is enigmatic. The timeframe and subject matter is initially obscure. The criss-crossed pattern alludes to feelings of surveillance and entrapment. Light plays a leading role here as Hütte experiments with juxtaposing light and dark, and varying forms of artificial light. The use of Duratrans ensures the image is lit from edge to edge, illuminating this powerful and mysterious image.
