About the artwork

David Hockney’s James is an intimate portrait of one of the pioneering British artist’s close friends or lovers. Completed in 1981 when Hockney had already achieved a fair amount of international acclaim, this strikingly simple lithograph encapsulates the tender autobiographical nature of his work.
