Produced for General Idea’s solo exhibition at Deichtorhallen Hamburg in 1990, Nine Lives captures a trio of copyright skulls in a somewhat unsettling group portrait. General Idea's artworks usually deal with the way in which consumerism, art and iconography relate to each other and entering into a critical and contradictory discussion. The idea behind this work is that as cats have nine lives, so each member of the group gets three lives each.
