Biography of Heimo Zobernig
Heimo Zobernig (born 1958 in Kärnten, AT) is an Austrian painter and sculptor. Although at first glance Zobernig's works often appear heavy and static, the artist mainly utilizes light, ephemeral materials like pressboards, polystyrene or lavatory roles. For Zobernig, art functions as a communication medium between object and human being; therefore he preferably displays his art in public spaces. His reduced works are influenced by the geometric abstraction of the Russian constructivism and rarely have titles. The sensual experience of his works is constantly being altered due to the distance between observer and object as well as factors like texture, color and the arrangement of the objects and their spatial relationship among themselves. Additional to originals, the Austrian has devoted himself to the production of multiples. Besides paper works and etchings, the painter creates sculptural wall objects such as his series Untitled (2013, edition of 13) which is made of press boards and dispersion paint. Zobernig currently lives and works in Vienna.
