About the artwork

Max Ernst can lay claim to being one of the most influential artists of the 20th century, a key figure of Dadaism and Surrealism, he mined his own subconscious to expand the parameters of his own mind and correspondingly the entire art world. As well as being an accomplished poet, sculptor and painter, Ernst once invented a new graphic art technique now known as frottage. This particular piece speaks of his work beyond painting and his prolific output in the graphic arts.
