Biography of Olaf Breuning
Olaf Breuning (born 1970 in Schaffhausen, CH) is a Swiss artist, experimenting with a wide range of different media such as sculpture, film, drawings, photography, or painting. Inspired by everyday scenes and hand-made objects, he creates art in a humorous way that is accessible to everyone but at the same time illustrates human abysses. Breuning's paintings are reminiscent of bright fireworks due to the explosive and pasty application of paint. In his partly large-scale sculptures – often adjusted to their surroundings and displayed in public spaces – the artist creates fairytale-like worlds.
On behalf of his multiples, the Swiss mainly works with drawings and photographs. Although his drawings initially remind of childish pencil scribbles, they are technically precise and perfect in execution. In his photographic editions The Art Freaks (Part 1-4), 2011 or Camelops Femina, 2013 the artist presents bizarre scenarios. Breuning currently lives and works in New York.
