About the artwork

Richard Hamilton viewed the 60s as being “popular, transient, expendable, low cost, mass produced, young, witty, sexy, gimmicky, glamorous and big business.” In Fashion-plate, reassembled images of Sophia Loren reveal this new “chaotic experience of the world.” Touched up with actual cosmetics by the artist, this same lithograph can be found in the Tate’s permanent collection.
