Sterling Ruby

Sterling Ruby (b. 1972) works across a variety of materials. Ceramics, sculpture, textile, installation, and painting; bold hues, monumental scales, and an element of spectacle pervade much of his practice. Societal issues as well as the built environment in Los Angeles, where Ruby lives and works, have served as frequent themes—his pieces have explored how architecture can influence human psychology. Ruby received his BFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago before pursuing an MFA at the Art Center College of Design.
