Christo Vladimirov Javacheff (born 1935 in Gabrovo, Bulgaria) is most well-known for his collaborations with his wife, Jeanne-Claude (born 1935 in Casablanca, Morocco; died 2009 in New York, USA) under the moniker Christo & Jeanne-Claude. About the artwork

As they came in to dock in New York aboard the SS France, Christo and Jeanne-Claude were overwhelmed by the sight of the skyscrapers of downtown Manhatten looming above the ship. Almost immediately Christo began sketching plans and making collages. Unfortunately, like with so many of their projects, this one never got off the ground, but they never gave up, repeatedly meeting and lobbying board directors right up until the 1990s when this work was made.
