About the artwork

In 1960 Hockney was left spellbound by a huge Picasso Retrospective at the Tate Gallery. When Picasso died in 1973, Hockney produced this stunning etching as a homage to him. In it the naked Hockney can be seen extending a hand forward, as though to touch the hands of his great hero.
