What is a publisher?

A publisher or editor has editions produced in close cooperation with the artist. The project proposed by the artist is first discussed and after a clarification of the details, such as technical feasibility and financing, an order is placed with a print shop or foundry. In some cases, the publisher also runs his own workshop in which the artist can produce his prints or multiples. If the artist does not produce their edition themselves, they are dependent on the work of a specialist—the printer or foundry man. They are the artist’s technical advisor and will make their technical knowledge, material, manpower and equipment available to the artist. The profession of publisher a lot of artistic empathy and often a high level of craftsmanship so that the creative ideas of the artist can be understood and technically implemented.
