About the artwork

This work is a preparatory study done in anticipation of a project that was never realized by Christo & Jeanne-Claude in which they sought to wrap the entire interior of The Glyptothek in Munich, Germany. Munich's oldest public museum, the institution is the only in the world that is solely dedicated to the storage and display of ancient Greek and Roman sculpture. By concealing these sculptures in fabric, Christo & Jeanne-Claude meant to upset the power relation between artwork and museum-goer, forcing—if only momentarily—the viewer to re-evaluate the value of the object found behind the proverbial curtain.
